Alexander & Company is a full-service, independent employee benefits advisory firm located just outside of Atlanta in Woodstock, GA that employs 34 people. They primarily focus on promoting and selling benefits to school systems ranging from 30-14,000 employees.
Teddy Smith, Vice President - Operations, started at Alexander & Company as an account manager back in 2011. Before that he studied finance, was a youth minister, high school teacher and sold insurance. One could say that he is the perfect fit for this type of work.
Smith oversees each team and the leader of each one, addressing complex problems when they arise, keeping them on point and continuing to move towards the company’s vision and goals.
The biggest challenges for Smith and Alexander & Company regarding selling the InfinityHR product came down to two reasons:
Alexander & Company wanted to rely less on 3rd party enrollment firms for Open Enrollment season and alleviate time constraints for their benefits administrators in the call center
Basically, Alexander & Company was looking to free up more time for their benefits admins in the call center to focus on other high-priority assignments. They also wanted to find a way to save the company more money overall by keeping most of their work "in-house".
The platform’s look was aging
The InfinityHR platform was first released in 2003 primarily as a benefits management tool. As the years churned on, the system began to The platform’s look was aging evolve by adding Applicant Tracking, Reporting, Payroll, Time & Attendance and more.
However, one aspect of the platform was being overlooked. The user experience and overall design.
To Smith, the look-and-feel of their experience on the platform was becoming dated. Other competing platforms were not just focusing on their functionality, but the overall look-and-feel of their designs as well. It was clear an update was needed to the user interface and to the overall user experience. as a whole.
"We have always loved the administrative efficiency and the engine of the InfinityHR platform," said Smith.
To address Alexander & Company’s first pain point—regarding saving more money for the business as well as to free up more time for the benefits admins—InfinityHR worked with them to create and develop a voluntary benefits widget that integrated directly with Unum. This enabled them to greatly free up the resources for the admins in the call center as well as rely much less on the 3rd party enrollment firms to do the work for them.
Through automation, the widget created allows administrators to seamlessly send out new hires and/or employees reenrolling in voluntary benefits such as Critical Illness and Whole Life insurance to Unum at a click of a button.
Because of this tool, it has saved Alexander & Company countless hours on their benefits management duties and has also allowed them to enjoy greater profits due to not having to pay 3rd party companies for help anymore.
"We feel much differently with all the recent attention and actionable improvements to the platform. We feel the gap has closed enough, or even surpassed the overall experience of the system. We are reinvigorated and already starting to implement it on our new projects as our "best pitch," said Smith.
